In the beginning…

…there were three. And we had this idea that it would be cool to travel across the state of Iowa in the middle of summer. On our bicycles. With 10,000 other people. What better way to memorialize this brilliant idea than to make it as public as possible?

So enjoy. All you have to do is read about it.

  1. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” – Lao Tzu

Thought that this quote was fitting. 6 months away and so many things between now and then. I hope everyone has started at least thinking about a program or started some light rides to get the nether regions used to some long hours of discomfort. I am going to post my workout program (once I get one together) and hopefully pass along stuff that I find helpful. I did a similar ride last year and loved it! I want to do some things differently this year as I thought at times I was not training right. Not eating the right foods, taking too many supplements, and generally jacking up my system! Want to focus on natural foods as much as possible, so i am picking up some books on this. It happens to be one of my new year’s resolutions. I am still stoked that we are doing this together! Can’t wait to see Iowa as can only be experienced on a bike, get in a great workout, and spend quality time with not only my niece and cousin but the whole family Teri, Charlie, and Natalie! Looking at the route, we are going to have some great areas to unwind and hang!

  2. Okay was trying to find a comparable quote but the Belisarius did not encompass the fun we’re going to have so instead am reaching back to that fountain of wisdom, Montgomery Scott aka Scotty:

Scotty: Never get drunk unless you’re willing to pay for it – the next day.

So as to not “pay for it” in July am trying to clean up the act. I put in 30 miles on the gym bike yesterday trying to get used to time in the saddle. Hey if you all are on MapMyRun let me know. I post my workouts up there.

I’ve been in conference season this month which has impacted my training a bit but because it was in SF found a lot of places to be more active, stair racing up from the BART station, lots of walking. Took six flights at the conference center vice the escalator. Stuff like that.
